Artist's Description
From Wikipedia - Bear Butte is called Mathhr Bear Mountain, by the Lakota, or Sioux. To the Cheyenne, it is Noahȧ-vose ("giving hill") or Nȯhe-vose ("bear hill"),the place where Ma'heo'o (God) imparted to Sweet Medicine, a Cheyenne prophet, the knowledge from which the Cheyenne derive their religious, political, social, and economic customs. The mountain is sacred to many indigenous peoples, who make pilgrimages to leave prayer cloths and bundles tied to the branches of the trees along the mountains flanks. Other offerings are often left at the top of the mountain. The site is associated with various religious ceremonies throughout the year. The mountain is a place of prayer, meditation, and peace.
About John Greco
I grew up in New York City and developed a serious interest in photography while serving in Vietnam where I purchased my first 35mm camera (Pentax). After returning to civilian life, and while working a 9 to 5 job, I took classes in the evening at the New York Institute of Photography. On weekends I roamed the streets of New York photographing the city. At night, I would set up a dark room, to develop black and white prints, working out of the kitchen of my apartment. Since moving to Florida in 1997, my focus has shifted to nature, landscape and wildlife while still keeping an open eye for other subject matter. I am also a short story author. My latest book, Devious Tales: 12 Short Stories, is available at Amazon, Barnes & Noble, Kobo...
