Surprisingly, one day ten to fifteen Roseate Spoonbills were just hanging out at a nearby pond. My wife drove by and upon seeing this unusual sight called and told me to hurry on down with my camera. Ten minutes later I was there and fortunately so were the Spoonbills. I shot a series of photos from my car capturing this shot and a few others you can view on this website. About a half hour later, two women stopped nearby, got out of their car with their cell phone cameras and started shooting...but not for long. The women unknowingly got too close and scared them all off. I fortunately got my shots! That was the only day those Spoonbills were ever at that pond.
I grew up in New York City and developed a serious interest in photography while serving in Vietnam where I purchased my first 35mm camera (Pentax). After returning to civilian life, and while working a 9 to 5 job, I took classes in the evening at the New York Institute of Photography. On weekends I roamed the streets of New York photographing the city. At night, I would set up a dark room, to develop black and white prints, working out of the kitchen of my apartment. Since moving to Florida in 1997, my focus has shifted to nature, landscape and wildlife while still keeping an open eye for other subject matter. I am also a short story author. My latest book, Devious Tales: 12 Short Stories, is available at Amazon, Barnes & Noble, Kobo...
